Bohemian Muppets
There are only a few creations which are actually perfect and purely sublime. This is one of them.
My favorite moments are at the 0:56 mark, “Mama…” and of course Miss Piggy at the 3:58 mark.
But it’s all hilarious, enjoy.

City of God’s Son
Ok. First listen to this—
And yes, I meant listen—
If I’m anything I’m a junkie for narrative. I don’t care what form it takes… I just like to devour story.
Dominique De Leon, a friend and classmate from film school has gotten into the habit of doing a monday “music drop” which I love. [...]
MakingOf.com
I was recently sent a link from a film school classmate (thanks Bobby) for an interesting new website called MakingOf.com.
It was co-founded by Natalie Portman and according to the site it “provides an intimate, fresh look into the process of creating entertainment by the insiders themselves.”
Swanky right?
In the interview below filmmaker Darren Aronofsky talks [...]
First Family Photo
I defy you… yes you, to look at this and not smile.
President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, sit for a family portrait in the Green Room of the White House, Sept. 1, 2009. (Official White House Photo)

Dreaming Wildly
I came across my latest web addiction, Soul|Pancake via actor Rainn Wilson’s twitter feed. The site features community posts about everything using life’s “BIG” questions as a departure point.
You can watch Rainn’s intro below:
Here’s an example, the question was “What is your wildest artistic dream?”:
“So this guy Michael holds up a sign [...]
Kanye + Spike = ???
This short collaboration between Kanye and Spike Jonze won’t be up long so I’m sharing it quickly (without adding too many thoughts yet).
It’s being yanked down as soon as people post it (including Kanye).
The film interests me on several levels (mostly thematically and the imagery at the end)… and not for [...]
The Good Actor
Good acting doesn’t always have to be that serious.
When I was performing in Julius Caesar I had one brief scene alone with Denzel Washington. This was just before the “tent scene” between Brutus (Denzel) and Cassius. I was Cassius’ attendant, Pindarus and came in before him “to do salutations from him“. Got [...]
A Creative Polygamist
A few weeks (or was it months?) ago I wrote about my fascination with Polymaths.
I am not a so-called Polymath. Though studying them gives me some insight into those (like myself) who leap deeply into a variety of interests and make a living at them.
I don’t consider myself a Polymath for many [...]
Coen Brothers
I wanted to post this a while ago but I’m only just now getting to it.
I’m an avowed fan of the Coen Brothers (Joel and Ethan) for their unique formalism and their topsy-turvy portraits of America. And they can and do cut their own films you know I love that.
The internets were [...]
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
While surfing the internets I heard a song used in a personal video. I used Shazam on my iphone but couldn’t find the title at the time and the user didn’t list it.
The instrumentation and rhythmic pulse of the song floored me and stuck with me. It sounded like a sensual brass [...]
Didnt Cha Know Princess
[dailymotion width=”580” height=”400”]http://www.dailymotion.com/mychannel/ecnirp7/video/xal6sk_didnt-cha-know_music[/dailymotion]
You gotta hear this song.
Why? Because I love the song and c’mon it’s Prince with Rhonda Smith no less and doing Erykah Badu.
Really why? Because I’m dedicating this one to you.
Thanks Erykah
1000 Words 082609
I normally keep these “1000 Words” posts wordless but this one is unique.
I didn’t stumble on this image on the internets it’s actually from photographer Mark Tucker from here.
Of course being from Alabama and knowing the history of this man, U.S. Congressman John Lewis and this bridge I had to post [...]
Compassion Rep’d Here
I was living in a tenement house on West 51st street between 8th and 9th. My room was only about 8×6 ft. with a sink, a bed and my suitcases.
The guy/girl sleeping there before me had made such a dent in the mattress there was a now permanent hollow in it (on [...]
We Danced Together
“Nothing is original.”
One of my early posts was about a set of guidelines (which included the above) from filmmaker Jim Jarmusch.
An excerpt:
“Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination.
Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of [...]
Tyler Perry Did It
“Tyler Perry is the first African-American to own a film studio.”
What? Really?!
See, I’m not sure when I heard it but someone said it last night. I happen to flip past and caught the last segment of CNN’s Black In American part 2 and I heard it.
My first thought was really? Is that [...]
True Blood
When the Sunday series “True Blood” comes on HBO I never skip the credits.
I’ve seen them more than a dozen times I think but it doesn’t matter because the sequence of visuals and how they’re put together are brilliant.
The director and editor in me could watch it all day.
The sequence was [...]
Only One of You
An old friend reminded me of this:
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any [...]
Soul Power
Don’t read this. Go see this movie now!
Okay.. if you insist.
A few years ago when I was in film school one of my instructors, Jen Ruff, pointed me towards a small New York production company called Antidote Films and said they were looking for post-production interns.
I went in and met Jeff Levy-Hinte (a really [...]
