This was the tweet from Director Errol Morris as he broke the news of the death of his editor Karen Schmeer (“The Fog of War”, “Fast, Cheap and Out of Control”).
SENSELESS TRAGEDY: My beloved editor Karen Schmeer was killed last night by a car used in the robbery of a drugstore.
She was 39 years old.

She was seemingly a much beloved person and clearly a very talented editor and someone who I also got a chance to hear speak a few months ago at EditFest.
I also saw a film she edited called Sergio while I was at the Sundance Labs and found her work on the film really elevated it. I didn’t know her personally but her work will remain a source of inspiration for myself and others.

Here she is on the far right above during EditFest while speaking on a doc editing panel.
“An extraordinary editor makes possible something that would not have been possible without them. Karen Schmeer was an extraordinary editor.” —Errol Morris
