Ethos
Pronunciation: \ˈē-ˌthäs\
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, from Greek ēthos

Definition: The distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.

Frank Chimero is a designer and illustrator who I’ve posted about before here who I’d like to mention again. On his website he dedicates a page to what he calls “Ethos”.

He explains it simply: “Ethos is a pool of thoughts about the creative process.” and goes on to offer invaluable nuggets like these:

“Failure is crucial. If you’re not failing, you’re not trying to get better.”
“Make yourself skillful. Then, make yourself vulnerable.”
“The best creative advice acts as a permission slip.”

He’s inspired me and I’m creating my own “Ethos” page… stay tuned. Meanwhile, jump over and take a look to see if you find one you like.
